Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Insurance
Q: Do you accept insurance or Oregon Health Plan (OHP) for your services?
A: We do not bill insurance. I am an autism specialist but not a medical professional, per se, so unable to bill insurance. That said, I have been covered under certain circumstances and I am certainly willing to work with you and your referring physician, if need be.
DD Services/ K Plan
Q: Do you accept payment through County or Brokerage Developmental Disability Services / K-Plan?
A: From time to time, I do have openings for county or brokerage clients. I currently have a wait list.
Services?
Q: We are interested in Synergy Services, how do we get started?
A: We welcome you to make an initial appointment with me, Barb. During that online session, you will share a bit about what has lead you to seek services. I will share ideas, resources, and make recommendations during the call.
ABA?
Q: Do you offer ABA Therapy?
A: No, I am not an ABA provider. ABA is an acronym for Applied Behavior Analysis. While I commonly use aspects of behavior analysis in my work, I stand by my autistic clients who denounce the use of compliance training and/or methods to reduce stimming or alternative ways of processing information.
Sessions
Q: Do you do in-person visits/sessions?
A: My initial work with clients is usually online. There are so many things we can address and cover without needing to be in the same room. That said, there usually comes a time in our work together that in-person would be helpful for myriad reasons. If you are in the Portland, Oregon area, I schedule visits on Thursdays and Fridays. If you are outside of Portland, we can arrange my travel to you.
Parenting
Q: Do you support parents who are also on the spectrum?
A: Absolutely. This is quite common and I welcome you and will work with you to explore, understand, and utilize your strengths in your parenting and your relationships (e.g., with your spouse or partner, too).
Other Avenues
Q: I am not ready to meet with you but I am curious about what you have to offer. Any ideas?
A: Absolutely. I recommend taking one or more of my online trainings and/or reading my book!
